Import and export tools move structured content between WordPress sites and external systems. The hard part is never the file: it is preserving relationships, identifiers, media, custom fields, users and repeatable update rules.

How we assessed them
We compared supported object types, field mapping, relationships, media handling, update keys, scheduling, logs, rollback options, scale and privacy behaviour.
A safe import routine
- Clone the site to staging and back up files and database
- Export a small sample and write an explicit field mapping
- Test create, update, skip, delete, duplicate and malformed rows
- Interrupt a run deliberately and confirm it recovers cleanly
Export is not backup
An export covers selected records. A recoverable backup includes the database, files, configuration and a restore you have actually tested.

Common questions
Is export the same as backup?
No. An export usually covers selected records. A recoverable backup includes the database, files, configuration and a tested restore process.
How do I prevent duplicates?
Choose a stable unique key and test repeat imports. Do not rely on titles when a source identifier exists.
Should user passwords be exported?
Avoid exposing credentials. Follow the tool documentation and privacy requirements, and prefer account reset or secure migration processes.
