An inventory plugin should solve a specific operational problem. If staff spend an afternoon changing quantities, a bulk editor may be enough. If two websites sell the same physical items, you need stock synchronisation. If several products use the same component, you need shared stock rules.
What this comparison is
Based on publisher documentation reviewed on 10 September 2026. These are editorial assessments of documented capabilities, not results from hands-on speed or reliability tests. Free and paid editions are distinguished where that affects the decision.
Choose by the job you need done
| Plugin | Best fit | What to check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| ATUM | Supplier records and day-to-day stock oversight | Which advanced functions need add-ons |
| Stock Manager | Straightforward quantity editing | Whether its fields cover your workflow |
| Smart Manager | Editing a broader product catalogue | The difference between Lite and Pro actions |
| Attribute Stock | Products that share components or materials | Lite does not prevent over-purchasing |
| Stock Sync | Stock shared by separate WooCommerce stores | Store and product limits, plus sync direction |
| FlexStock | A team that works in Google Sheets | Plan limits and who may edit the sheet |
| Notifima | Waitlists and restock notifications | Paid requirements for inventory editing |
1. ATUM: start here for stock oversight
ATUM brings products into its Stock Central workspace and documents supplier records, purchase orders, stock logs and editable inventory fields. Its free core is a useful starting point for a retailer that wants purchasing information alongside stock quantities.
Consider a homewares shop buying mugs from three suppliers. The useful question is not simply how many mugs remain - staff also need to know whom to reorder from and which delivery is still expected. A location label on a shelf is different from a warehouse with its own quantity, so write down which behaviour you need before selecting extensions.
2. Stock Manager: a focused stock-editing option
Stock Manager for WooCommerce provides a central place to work with product and variation stock, including import, export and stock history. It is a reasonable shortlist choice when opening individual product pages is the main source of wasted time.
Treat an import as a stock change
Keep the previous export, confirm the identifier used for matching, and start with a small group of items. A convenient editor cannot resolve a physical count that was wrong in the first place.
3. Smart Manager: for catalogue work beyond quantities
Smart Manager offers a spreadsheet-style interface for WooCommerce data, with Lite and Pro capabilities separated by the publisher. It is worth comparing when your team changes catalogue data as often as stock - visibility, sale prices and quantity in the same session.
Prepare a trial containing a simple product, a variable product and an item with a scheduled promotion. Confirm filtering and save behaviour before editing a large group, and check the exact paid tier for any undo or scheduling function you expect to use.
4. Attribute Stock: when products draw from shared materials
Attribute Stock is designed around inventory shared across products or variations, including different quantities consumed by a purchase. Imagine selling a single candle and a gift box containing three of the same candle: a shared component rule should deduct one unit for the single and three for the box.
Check the edition limit
The free Lite listing explicitly says it does not change frontend product stock or prevent over-purchasing. Do not assume that installing Lite makes a component-based store safe to launch.
5. Stock Sync: for separate stores sharing inventory
Stock Sync connects WooCommerce stores and sends quantity changes between them, with purchases, refunds and administrative edits documented as triggers. The repository edition is limited to two stores and 100 products; Pro expands those limits.
Before connecting a live catalogue, choose the authoritative starting quantity and verify product matching. Then test what happens when one site cannot receive an update, and include recovery and reconciliation in your operating procedure.
6. FlexStock: for teams that already use Google Sheets
FlexStock connects Google Sheets with WooCommerce and advertises two-way updates for stock and other product information. The convenience comes with an operational decision: who is allowed to change the live catalogue? A sheet shared for reporting should not quietly become an unrestricted editing surface.
Keep reference columns separate from editable values, document who owns corrections, and check what happens when an order arrives while someone changes a quantity.
7. Notifima: for demand while products are unavailable
Notifima lets visitors join product waitlists and receive restock notifications, with inline stock editing and the inventory dashboard placed in Pro. Consider it first as a customer-notification tool and evaluate additional stock functions separately.
Test a full restock cycle: sign up as a visitor, restore stock, receive the message and follow the product link. Also check how customers stop receiving alerts. An email signup is not a paid order - use those numbers as one input when planning a reorder.
A practical way to compare your shortlist
Build a small test catalogue resembling your real store: a simple product, two variations, a low-stock item, and any bundle or shared component you sell. Record starting quantities before doing anything else, then run the same sequence for each candidate.
- Place an order, then cancel a second order
- Process a refund with the intended restock option
- Enter a manual adjustment and import a corrected count
- For two stores: simultaneous orders and a temporary connection failure
- For warehouses: move stock between locations and check what each site can sell
- For sheet-based work: an edit made while the store is taking orders
Compare total annual cost only after identifying the required edition and extensions, including the staff time needed to reconcile errors and train a replacement operator. A lower licence fee is not automatically a lower operating cost.

Common questions
Do I need an extra inventory plugin for a small shop?
Possibly not. Start by describing the task your current setup cannot handle cleanly. If there is no recurring problem, adding another layer may create work without saving any.
Can I install several of these together?
Some functions are complementary, such as stock editing and customer alerts. Avoid letting two independent systems both decide the final stock quantity unless their integration is documented and you have checked the complete order lifecycle.
Which would you evaluate first?
For supplier records and purchasing oversight, start with ATUM. For quantity edits, compare Stock Manager with Smart Manager. For a structural requirement such as components or separate websites, begin with Attribute Stock or Stock Sync.
